Case 10 — Color Flow Doppler Echocardiography

Color flow Doppler image in systole showing a large color jet projecting into the left atrium. Flow starts in the left ventricle (LV) as laminar blue flow, accelerates at the mitral valve into a mosaic pattern, and wraps around in the left atrium — first toward the left wall, then along the roof, ending in the markedly enlarged pulmonary vein. Systolic color flow Doppler. A large jet projects from the LV through the mitral valve into the LA, wrapping around the atrial walls and ending in the enlarged pulmonary vein. The apparent gap in the jet center is an artifact of perpendicular flow.
