Case 17 — M-Mode Echocardiogram

M-mode echocardiogram across the center of the left ventricle (LV) with breath held. LV diastolic diameter is increased to 3.3 cm (normal 2.5 cm). End-systolic diameter is also increased to 2.2 cm (normal 1.5 cm). Shortening fraction is normal at 33%.
M-mode of the LV (breath held). EDD = 3.3 cm (normal 2.5 cm); ESD = 2.2 cm (normal 1.5 cm); SF = 33% (normal). Normal wall motion with an enlarged chamber means increased stroke volume.
